Brazilian Senate reject judge's order to suspend speaker

Brazilian Senate has rejected judge's order to suspend speaker after facing trial for alleged embezzlement in a scandal that threatens to destabilize President Michael Temer.

Speaker Renan Calheiros, 61 would stay in his post until a full session of 11 judges in Supreme Court rule on whether he should be suspended.

Judge Marco Aurelio of Supreme court on Monday ordered the suspension of speaker Calheiros.

Calheiro after meeting with panel said "removing the speaker of senate from his post nine days before the end of his term, through a democratic decision, even Brazil, democracy does not deserve such a fate".
